Please sign in to see more. THE STORY SO FAR – 27TH JUNE 2011
My name is Carole Ann Boelen nee Armes I was born in 1950 at Number 5 Wine Coopers Arms Yard, St Augustine’s Norwich Norfolk England.
I have always been interested in following up on my family’s history, but have always been busy and not had the time or opportunity and when I did have the opportunity at aged 20 to 23 when living in England I wasn’t really interested.
My brother-in-law has followed up his and my husband’s family history and managed to get right back to 1550 which has been amazing. Setting up a Family Tree on Tribalpages.com for all of the living relatives to see. He has put in many hours, days, weeks and months over the years to achieve a great result. I cannot hope to do as well as him, but have started over the last few months getting some information together and enjoying the experience.
Even reading other people’s information is interesting and sets the imagination to work. Names, places, types of jobs and addresses can all be very different to today’s. What’s a Journeyman or a Wire Weaver???? All of these words and names leave’s the imagination wanting more.
I have an ancestor who was a Journeyman and also one who was a Wire Weaver I wonder what else I shall find……………
From Wikipediea:-
Journeyman
The word journeyman comes from the French word journee, which means the period of one day. The title refers to the journeyman's right to charge a fee for each day's work. A Journeyman would normally be employed by a master craftsman, but would live apart and might have a family of their own. A journeyman could not employ others. In contrast, an apprentice would be bound to a master, usually for a fixed term of seven years, and lived with the master as a member of the household, receiving most or all compensation in the form of food and lodging.
Wire Weaver
Sets up and operates power looms to weave wire cloth for products, such as industrial cloths, filters, sieves, or strainers etc
So this were I am at, where to start the story. I have thought about this for a while and it’s hard to start either from the beginning or the end as neither is final so to speak. So I have decided to start the story from me and from my perspective. So keep in mind when reading this and if you are related to me or the family in some way, you must make your association to the story and family through my journey.
First things first the source,
That is the source of the information, pictures and stories I have put into the “Story so Far”.
Family:-
Mum – Betty Eva Armes nee Nichols Born 1928. Mum has been a great source of information to me, more than I need sometimes. Stopping first thing in the morning to regal me of some incident that had happened in the past which usually led to another story or person or even a picture which we would have to look for. Mums memories are wonderful she is often out on the dates or even the year but always remembers the colours of the dress’s and the places they were at and the people they were with. Also always any scandal that was attached to them or their family. So firstly thanks to Mum for 85 nearly 86 years of memories and especially for remembering before our time…………
Christine Simpson:– For actuallu starting me on this journey with her interest in the Nichols Family.
Christine Cartner:- For lots of old photos of the Nichols family and also some of there stories, strange as some of them may be.
Sources on line:- Findmypast.com and The Morom Church Family Tree site(free) amazingly a great source of reference.
The Beginning or should it be the end, actually it’s neither and the story isn’t finish and we shall probably never know the beginning, but the journey is interesting to say the least…….
